TITLE: Topology induced 1st order phase transitions in CDT
Abstract: In the CDT model of quantum gravity one considers, using the path integral formalism, ensembles of 4d geometries with a fixed topology. However, the ``effective'' topology of a generic configuration can be different from the underlying defining topology. I will describe recent numerical results which indicate a relation between the "effective" topologies of spacetimes and the order of the phase transitions the ensembles of geometries can undergo.
