Practical Information

Travelling to Nijmegen

We encourage you to choose a sustainable method of travel to get to Nijmegen where possible.

Train: Nijmegen is easy to reach by train from Germany (there are several ICEs passing through Arnhem, which is 15 minutes by train from Nijmegen) and from France (from Paris you can take a Thalys to either Amsterdam, Brussels or Antwerp and then travel to Nijmegen).

Plane: The nearest international airport is Amsterdam Schiphol, where there is a train station located inside the airport with regular direct trains to Nijmegen that take approximately 90 minutes.

Travelling to the campus

The workshop takes place in room HG0.303 in the Faculty of Science (Huygensgebouw) on campus.

The campus is approximately a 30 minute walk from the city centre.  Alternatively the campus can be reached from the central train station by bus or local train in 5 - 10 minutes. There are several buses from the train station to campus (get off at the bus stop Huygensgebouw):

  • Bus number 10 (departs from outside the Mercure hotel)
  • Bus 12 (direction Druten Bus station, departs from the central bus station)
  • Bus 15 (direction Wijchen, departs from the central bus station)
  • Bus 300 (direction Nijmegen Heyendaal, departs from the central bus station)

For bus timetables, visit https://www.breng.nl/en

Note that it is not possible to pay for the bus in cash: you can either buy a ticket by card or use a contactless credit card to tap in and out (remember to tap out), or buy and load a prepaid travel card, called the "OV-chipkaart" which you can use for all public transport in the Netherlands.

For returning from campus to the city centre, take any bus from Nijmegen Heyendaal station going to the central train station.

There is also a train from Nijmegen Central station to Nijmegen Heyendaal station, which is just a few minutes walk from the Huygens building.

An easy way to plan your bus and train travel is to use google maps or 9292.nl.

It is also possible to rent a bike from your hotel (or many bike shops) and travel by bike like the locals.

Workshop lunches

Lunch is provided from Monday - Thursday. Note the conference ends on Friday at 12:30.

Conference dinner

The conference dinner takes place on Thursday 13 July at 7pm at Brouwerij de Hemel in the city centre.

Accommodation

We recommend the following hotels:

We recommend making hotel reservations early, as the week after the workshop Nijmegen hosts its annual 4 day walking competition and many hotels are booked up quickly around this time for the associated festival.
